Practical Dental Assisting of Oregon highly encourages students to acquire an internship during the three month course.  It is not a required part of the program, but allows the students to utilize more fully the hands-on skills they have acquired through school in a different setting.
Students are encouraged to find a dentist that is willing to allow them to observe and use their skills.  Internships also are a great addition to a resume.

There are many ways to find an office, the easiest being where the student goes for their own dental treatment.  Or the dentist may be a family friend or a neighbor, perhaps an orthodontist from childhood, or simply by calling a dental office that is close to home.  Practical Dental Assisting of Oregon also provides an internship with Dixon Creek Dental, where our clinic is located.

Our students become members of the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA).  They receive a reduced rate of an enrollment fee of $40.00, normally $70.00 for the year.  Among other benefits of becoming a member, the ADAA provides the student with $50,000.00 in professional liability insurance.  This is so helpful when students are doing an internship, as a dentist is more likely to allow them to assist and use more of their skills being insured.

We believe that the more experience, the better Dental Assistants our students will become.  We strive to give the most hands-on experience possible, and truly allow our students to master the skills needed in today's dental environment.
